What is a Chautauqua?
An annual educational gathering with lectures, concerts, and dramatic performances in an outdoor setting. It was a system of education that flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At Sugar Grove, the history of the Illinois Prairie will be brought to life through theatrical performances, storytellers, and demonstrators of arts crafts and skills practiced by early settlers and Native Americans.
